Behind the Movie Yerra Bassu: Veteran Dasari Narayana Rao is always a special personality for film lovers. With changing trends in film making, Dasari took a good gap until he found the satisfactory script of ‘Manja Pai’ for remake. Manchu Vishnu and Catherine are into other main leads. Let us see, what is this grandpa- grandson story is all about?

In the Movie Yerra Bassu: Story opens on Software professional Rajesh (Manchu Vishnu) whose ambition is to fly USA. He falls in love with Dr. Raji (Catherine Tresa) and woos her in all possible ways till the time she accepts his sincerity. Around the same time, Rajesh gets an offer to fly USA and he wishes to celebrate these three months of time with grandpa Narayana (Dasari). Once Narayana lands in city, his old and traditional ways of spreading love, affection around in the neighborhood apartments doesn’t find any reciprocity. In turn, all these disturb the love life and professional life of Rajesh. Even his USA visa is rejected for the sole reason of Narayana insulting Whites. However, Narayana finds it difficult to mingle this so called modern day culture goes mad before Rajesh, Raji and others realize their mistakes.

Values & Out of the Movie Yerra Bassu: In one line, this film is a one man show of Dasari. Although the film is a Tamil to Telugu remake, Dasari was successful in adding the nativity and emotions. But the basic problem was treatment and depth in emotions necessary to connect with Telugu viewers. One must agree that remakes are not that easy. At the same time, they are also not that hard because there is a meaningful subject or script at disposal, it was just Dasari’s duty to make it much more sensible. However, he struck to the old format of 1980’s serial kind of narration which looked obsolete, uninteresting and boring too. Entire first half, one can question on where is Dasari’s mark? Dialogues too have gone overboard with lack of consistency. Despite having one of Dasari’s favorite disciples Relangi Narasimha Rao in the team, they could not keep the emotional quotient so high. Anji’s camera work is moderate while Kotagiri’s editing is also so-so. Chakri’s music doesn’t have big songs while BGM is partially perceptible. Production values of Taraka Prabhu Films are detectable.

Performance wise, Dasari did not change much from the times of ‘Surigadu’ and ‘Mamagaru.’ He can make you laugh in merry and at the same time, he can make you drop the tears with his expressions. Especially in second half, there were handful of scenes to keep audience engaged and Dasari was almost successful at times. The innocence in characterization is to touch the hearts of viewers. His costumes and entire get up is realistic. Manchu Vishnu is developing as a talented hero in recent times. At this point of time, this is a wrong selection because there is nothing bright to mention about him in the film. Catherine is also a show dampener. Raghu Babu as Wire did a good job. Rest of the team like Brahmanandam, MS Narayana Crow Comedy is unbearable while Ali, Surya, Hema, Surekha Vani, Naazar etc did their parts.

The big drawback of ‘Yerra Bassu’ is the way Dasari handled the whole concept to suit the tastes of modern day audience. Neither there was entertaining fun nor there were emotionally charged atmosphere created. Except Dasari, there is definitely no big plus here. He is habituated for this sort of natural performance and the drama ripened. There is big doubt on how far the fast-track audience can still adore this kind of half baked emotions. There is a lack of creative imagination and non-connectivity in many scenes ended up in a total disheartening show. Watch the film, only if you want to see Dasari.
