Behind the Movie Indrudu: Tamil hero Vishal established good market in Telugu is back here with ‘Indrudu,’ the dubbing version to Tamil hit film ‘Naan Sigappu Manithan.’ With Lakshmi Menon as heroine, Thiru directed it. Let us see, what is Indrudu all about?

In the Movie Indrudu: Story starts with Indrudu (Vishal) and his group of two friends Satti and Karuna buying an illegal gun. Down home, Indrudu has a wish list to complete and here comes the flashback. Since childhood, Indrudu is suffering with a rare sleeping disorder of Narcolepsy, wherein he would fall asleep whenever he experiences a peak emotion. Disturbed with personal life, Indrudu grows up as an intelligent guy and earns 20K per month. His mother (Saranya) waits for the moment to get Indrudu married. Thus enters Meera (Lakshmi Menon), daughter of an industrialist into his life and love blossoms. Problem is Meera’s father does not accept for marriage because he is feared that Indrudu might go in sleep while participating in sex and his daughter can never become pregnant. Sudden tragedy strikes Indrudu when Meera is made pregnant before marriage. A group of four goons attack them on a rainy night and injure Meera badly. As Indrudu gets into sleep with the sudden shock, he could not stop the brutality. Now Meera goes into coma and Indrudu is on the chase to find those four. Who are they? What is their connection with past friends of Indrudu? Rest is another big sub plot continuously unravels with shocking twists and turns.

Values & Out of the Movie Indrudu: Yet again, the skill of Tamil directors to beautifully weave scientific concepts and biological disorders into the commercial cinema is highlighted with this flick. Such subjects like ‘Ghajini’ are definitely exciting to hear but presenting the same on screen needs a lot of ground work and director cum screenplay writer Thiru has done it with the flick. From the very go, ‘Indrudu’ generated the tempo needed to keep the audience glued to screen. Never does this pace in narration drop. The way romantic thread between Vishal and Lakshmi is added to Narcolepsy is the skill of a real craftsman. This does not give space for viewers to come out of disorder. Screenplay takes a new format in second half with a new sub plot of friendship, betrayal dominating and diluting the main plot of hero’s revenge. Nevertheless, this is a new experiment. Richard M Nathan’s cinematography is top notch. Narcolepsy shades in Vishal are presented with authenticity. Anthony L Ruben’s editing too has a touch of class. GV Prakash Kumar’s music is sure to rivet the viewers with mood and essence in narrative. Production values of UTV are just on top.

On performance front, Vishal was successful in generating the sympathy to his disorderliness. Every time he collapses, it looks so natural. In action episodes, he was magnificent. Lakshmi Menon has a photogenic face and does justice. However, second heroine Iniya steals the show in second half. The humor spread by Vishal’s friends is good. Of the rest, Saranya as Vishal’s widow mother and Jayaprakash as Lakshmi’s industrialist father did well.

‘Indrudu’ is a film with intelligent screenplay and dubious content. Thiru seems to have done the complete research before adding different elements to his main thread. Exactly when patrons are shocked with a dreadful interval block and think of just a regular revenge saga to follow, Thiru springs a surprise bringing the new story with a hot Iniya into main story. Although this has disturbed the central theme, never did viewers have to complain until narration was honest with plenty of twists and turns keep us on edge of seats. Of course, climax could have got little more shock value. Overall, ‘Indrudu’ has a mixed flavor of ‘Rangam’ with friendship-betrayal shade, ‘Ghajini’ with a medical disorder shade which makes this an engrossing fair for novelty demanding viewers.

Commercially, ‘Indrudu’ is reported of good openings recorded compared to the other four releases yesterday. If effective promotions are added, audience turn out would increase in coming days.
