Municipal Administration And Urban Development Minister K. Tarakarama Rao said that the Telangana Government was the only government in the country to have taken up construction of two bed room houses for the weaker section at a cost of Rs. 18,000 crore.

Speaking on the Bhumi Puja for the construction of 1,620 units of double bed room houses, including Infrastructure facilities at D’Pochampally village of Dundigal in Medchel district on Wednesday, KTR said that by the next August this project would be completed. He said it would be a model township with proper roads, drainage, drinking water facilities and all other infrastructure for the convenience of the residents.

The Minister directed the concerned contractor to provide necessary provision for planting of trees at the project and requested the local M.P, MLA and MLC to coordinate with the contractor and the officials for providing space for planting of trees. This project has been taken up in an area of 7 acres. Each housing unit of 560 sq ft area costs around Rs. 8.5 lakh.

KTR further stated that the project was a continuous process and the construction of 2BHK would be taken up till all citizens in the city and State gets a house. “One lakh houses is the target for the GHMC.  Most of the works have started and would be completed by the next year. There will be house warming ceremonies in every month from next year onwards,” he said.

The Minister said that the housing projects are being implemented outside the city due to shortage of land in Hyderabad and Secunderabad. He has appealed all the Basthi people who are residing in slums and other localities to come forward to provide the land so that the scheme could be taken up in the twin cities itself instead of taking in the other far places.

Responding to the plea of the MP Ch. Malla Reddy, the Minister directed the Medchel Collector to sort out the issue pertaining to pattas, assigned lands and other disputes amicably and further assured that 10% of the houses will be provided to the local residents.
