Hundreds of Congress workers, led by former MLA D Sudhir Reddy, on Wednesday held a massive protest at the Civil Supplies Bhavan at Somajiguda against the rising prices of onion.

Speaking to media persons, Sudhir Reddy alleged that the TRS Government has completely failed to address the shortage of onions and their rising prices. He also alleged that several TRS leaders were involved in black-marketing of onions in the State. He said that the previous Congress regime had tackled a similar situation in the past quite effectively by arranging sufficient quantities of onions.

Sudhir Reddy said that Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Marketing Minister T. Harish Rao were not taking interest to resolve the crisis. Instead, he said two kilograms of onions are being sold at Rythu Bazars for Rs. 20 per kg as an eyewash. He said common people were forced to stand in queues for almost five to six hours to get two kgs of onion. He demanded that the State Government take immediate measures to overcome the shortage of onions in the State.
