Why CM is afraid of ordering CBI probe into Alair encounter? Asks Kodandaram

Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Saturday demanded probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a sitting judge of High Court into the Alair encounter in which five under trails were killed on April 7.

Speaking to media persons after attending a consultative meeting of various Muslim organisations at Madina Education Centre in Nampally here, Kodandaram questioned the hesitation being shown by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in ordering a CBI probe. He said KCR should not be afraid of ordering a CBI probe if he was not trying to hide any facts related to encounter. Stating that the Alair encounter has created a sense of insecurity among Muslims, he said giving extreme powers to police was not good for a democratic country.

Referring to a statement made by Home Minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy claiming that Hyderabad was free from terror activities, he said in contrast to this statement, the State Government, in its GO Ms No 184 on constitution of Special Investigation Team (SIT) has mentioned the five under trials as "terror operatives". He said accountability should be fixed on everyone and guilty police officials should be punished if they indulged in fake encounter.
