The Majlis Bachao Tahreek has strongly condemned Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for demanding Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, for former Prime Minister late P V Narasimha Rao.

MBT leader and former Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan alleged that it was Narasimha Rao who facilitated the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992. "Several reports, including the disclosures PVNR's Media Adviser P.V.R.K. Prasad revealed that Narasimha Rao remained inaccessible while Babri Masjid was being demolished. In fact, he wanted the construction of a temple at the same site of Babri Masjid. He played an ugly role in communal riots that followed the demolition of Babri Masjid. Further, thousands of Muslim youth were implicated in false cases under severe acts like TADA during Narasimha Rao's regime. Narasimha Rao was the most communal Congress Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and then the Prime Minister of India," he alleged.

Amjed Ullah Khan said that Narasimha Rao was disowned by the Congress party itself during his lifetime. "It is shocking that the Chief Minister and other TRS leaders are demanding Bharat Ratna for a person who remained notorious throughout his career for being anti-Muslim," he said while asking the Chief Minister to withdraw his demand. He also warned that the MBT would launch a massive protest if any move is done to confer Bharat Ratna to Narasimha Rao posthumously.

The MBT leader also condemned the conferring of Bharat Ratna for Hindu Maha Sabha founder Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. "This move clearly shows that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre has been encouraging saffronisation of country by honouring people who promoted anti-Muslim ideology," he said.
