TPCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah today exhorted party men to take up a massive enrolment drive in a big way to strengthen the party by visiting every household in the City with a focus on elections for GHMC and Cantonment. The membership drive should be completed by the time “we celebrate AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi’s birthday”, he said at a meeting in Gandhi Bhavan on membership drive.

Former minister D Nagender chaired the meeting. Senior leaders Shabbir Ali, V Hanumanth Rao, Anjan Kumar Yadav and Lakshmaiah said they will lay a siege to the Shamshabad Airport in protest against naming domestic terminal after NTR. Stating that they would launch a movement against NTR’s name, he said a plan of action will be chalked out to conduct a series of protests in this regard.

Finding fault with the Centre on its decision to use NTR’s name, he said the Congress will mount pressure against it. The Congress kept its promise of giving statehood despite knowing that it will lead to its debacle in the elections. He also alleged that the TRS Government has failed to fulfill its promises. With the focus on GHMC elections, the party leaders and activists should put in concerted efforts to enroll people, he said. The Congress is noted for welfare and development, they added. They also said a senior citizens’ cell will be opened in the party office to take their advice.
