Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah on Saturday accused Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao of preferring Tennis star Sania Mirza over debt-ridden farmers of the State.

Speaking to media persons here, Ponnala said that while KCR has funds to give Rs 2 crore grant and award to Sania Mirza, the State Government lacks money to support the families of martyrs of Telangana and debt-ridden farmers. He alleged that nearly 174 farmers have committed suicide since TRS Government took over in June. However, the State Government did not extend any financial support to them, he alleged.

Ponnala also accused KCR and his son K Tarakarama Rao, daughter K Kavitha and son-in-law T Harish Rao of doing "goonda gardi" in the State. He said that the people of Telangana have countered such moves in the past and they would also counter the dictatorial attitude of the Chief Minister.

The TPCC chief also demanded that KCR tender an unconditional apology to the Dalits for insulting Deputy Chief Minister Dr T Rajaiah in a public meeting in Warangal.
