The BJP-led NDA Government on Tuesday appointed former union minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao as the Governor of Maharashtra.

Besides Vidyasagar Rao, the Centre has appointed new Governors for Rajasthan, Karnataka and Goa. Born in 1945, Vidyasagar Rao is a lawyer by profession and was elected as member of AP Legislative Assembly thrice and as member of Lok Sabha twice. He also served as the Union minister of State for Home Affairs in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet in 1999.

Speaking to INN after his appointment, Vidyasagar Rao said that it was a matter of privilege for him to get appointed as the Governor of Maharashtra. Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his appointment, he said he would strive hard for the development of Maharashtra State.
