The Andhra Pradesh government has announced that Visakhapatnam will get the Metro rail project.

Announcing a slew of schemes, AP Information Technology Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy said children between 6 to 14 years of age will be educated under the “Badi Pilustondi” scheme. Speaking to media persons here, he said 24,596 children have been enrolled under the scheme and a biometric system will be introduced to mark attendance.

The IT minister also announced “Polam Pilustondi” scheme for farmers where agriculture officials will make visits to farms and educate farmers on Tuesday and Wednesday every week. Under the “Neeru Chettu” scheme, P. Raghunath Reddy said about one lakh saplings 2,25,000 hecatres will be planted in all the 13 districts of AP in five years for water-shed management. He said that the AP government plans to make the state drought-free in the next 5 years. He also said that sand mining would be monitored through CCTV cameras at mining sites. The government will also award the contracts to women of DWCRA groups as a step to empower them.

Raghunatha Reddy the government also said that the transfer of government employees would be decided within a month. The employees from the MRO-level to the secretary level and mandal-level officers will also be transferred within a month.

In another major announcement, the minister said that it plans to make generic and allopathic medicines available to people at a low cost. Also, it would make low-cost breakfast available in three districts at NTR canteens.
