TDP MLAs hold dharna near CM's office

Telugu Desam Party MLAs on Monday staged dharna before the chambers of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in the State Legislative Council premises demanding relief for cotton farmers.

The MLAs including Gali Muddukrishnamma Naidu, Motkupalli Narasimhulu, Errabelli Dayakar Rao, R Chandrasekhara Reddy and others lodged protest alleging inaction by the Chief Minister in prevailing upon the Cotton Corporation of India to procure cotton directly from the farmers who were affected by cyclone Nilam. They said that the party has already made a representation to the Chief Minister on this issue on December 2. However, no relief was provided to farmers.

They said that thousands of cotton farmers in the Telangana region lost their crops due to cyclone Nilam and therefore, he said that the CCI should be asked to purchase cotton from the affected farmers at market rates.

The TDP MLAs continued their protest for about half-an-hour.
