Power sharing will solve Telangana issue: Diwakar

Former minister and senior Congress leader J C Diwakar Reddy on Saturday called upon political leaders to resolve the Telangana statehood issue through sharing of power between those from Seemandhra and Telangana.

Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party Office here, he said that the Telangana problem could be amicably resolved by sharing the post of Chief Minister between Telangana and Seemandhra leaders. He said that the separation problem got strengthened since most of the time the post of the state’s Chief Minister was occupied by leaders from Seemandhra.

Hence, he suggested that leaders from Seemandhra and Telangana could share the coveted post of Chief Minister for three years and two years in turn.

Mr Diwakar Reddy said that he would hold consultations with all state level leaders in this regard and later take up this proposal to the Congress High Command. However, he hastened to add that this proposal was not against present Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.“If we consider this proposal at the implementation stage, we can solve the statehood issue amicably,” he was confident.

He recalled that the same idea was floated during former Chief Minister K Rosaiah’s tenure. However, no one responded positively to this, he added. Taking a serious note of the desecration of Dr Ambedkar’s statues, he said these were installed at prominent places all over the state to remind people of their services and sacrifices to achieve freedom.
