Kodandaram advocates Judicial Activism

Indirectly advocating Judicial activism, Telangana Political Joint Action Committee Chairman M Kodandaram on Wednesday stated that the High Court has to take the mantle of a guide and lead the state government on various matters, making it take appropriate decision which are beneficial to the people.

“There would be no need of the various JACs staging dharnas and bandhs if the state government functions properly and takes appropriate decision which are beneficial to the people,” Prof Kodandaram told media persons at the New MLA Quarters.

He added, “The High Court has to take the lead role in ensuring that the state government carried out its responsibility of providing services to the people through timely and appropriate decisions. If the state government functions properly, there would be no need for the various JACs to stage dharnas and bandhs.”

Prof Kodandaram was responding to questions about the High Court issuing notices on the bandhs causing inconvenience to people.

The tpjac chief pointed out that, “dharnas and bandhs are the democratic right of each and every party. We have been agitating for separate statehood as the government had not taken steps to fulfil the people’s aspirations.”

Hailing the deletion of Clause 14 F from the Presidential Orders of 1975, Prof Kodandaram demanded the state government postpone the recruitment examination for sub-inspector posts as the aspirants need time for the preparation.

He disclosed that an all-party delegation would call on Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and appeal to him to defer the SI’s recruitment examination.

Stating the deletion of Clause 14 F was the first success in the fight for separate Telangana statehood, Prof Kodandaram called upon all leaders to extend total support to the general strike called by Telangana employees from August 17.
