Though farm produce has good demand abroad, the farmers in the state were in dire straits due to wrong policies adopted by the Centre and state governments, stated Lok Satta Party president Jayprakash Narayan.

Talking to media persons on Friday, Dr Narayan alleged that the farm produce stored in the warehouses was rotting since it was not being looked after properly.

He urged the Centre to make efforts to provide space for storing grains in warehouses by clearing old and rotting stock immediately.

Expressing serious concern over the shortage of space for storing grains in warehouses, he said the government should construct new warehouses with ultra-modern facilities for the benefit of farmers.

The LSP chief also criticized the state government for not taking welfare measures and steps for the benefit of farmers.

He appealed to government to introduce liberalization policies and reforms in the agriculture sector for the benefit of farmers.

Dr Narayana also urged government to allow farmers to sell their produce in any part of state and country to get good price.
