Govt's inefficiency proved by laggardness in Emaar scam: CPI

The state government’s inefficiency was exposed in its laggardness over taking action against Emaar Properties, stated Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana.

Talking to media persons on Friday, the CPI leader alleged the government has played the role of a `real estate broker’ in the deal between the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation and Emaar Properties, which saw influential persons being allotted properties worth crores of rupees worth through dubious means.

The corrupt land dealings have caused loss to state exchequer to the tune of Rs 10,000 crores, Mr Narayana charged.

By failing to order a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into murky land dealings, the government has admitted its inefficiency and shielded the guilty involved in the deals.

Blaming the government for being responsible for the deaths of creditors of microfinance institutions, who had taken their lives after failing to repay the loans with exorbitant interest rates, the CPI leader said that his party would set up state-level protection cells for these victims.

He said the protection cells would create awareness on operations of microfinance institutions to help the victims.
