Behind the Movie Surya Vs Surya: Hero Nikhil is on swing with back to back hits ‘Swamy Ra Ra’ and ‘Karthikeya.’ He teamed with cinematographer turned director Karthik Ghattamaneni for this new flick starring Tridha as heroine. With lot of hype built around, let us get into the actual review.

In the Movie Surya Vs Surya: Surya (Nikhil) suffers with a rare genetic disorder (Porphyrin) from childhood which does not permit him to come out in morning hours when sun is awake. With the support of mother (madhu Bala), slowly Surya starts enjoying his night life. He joins a night college where in finds two good friends Ersam (Tanikella) and Arun Sai (Satya). As Surya begins to have fun in college, he falls in love with night shift working TV anchor Sanjana (Tridha Chowdary). Taking all the inputs from both the friends, Surya finally wins the love of Sanjana. However hides the genetic disorder. Here begins the problems, when Sanjana calls Surya for spending time together in morning. Never late than ever, Surya confesses the truth with the help of his friends before Sanjana and her father (Sayaji Shinde) resulting in a break up. What Surya does to win back the love is rest.

Values of the Movie Surya Vs Surya: To take it on front, the very idea of dealing a genetic disorder in conflict with a love story is stunningly creative from debutant direcor Karthik. He was good till then. However, the screenplay was feeble. This is just because of lacking in enough content. Each of the characters are designed by Karthik with a new touch. Weaving of fun episodes at night college are thoroughly entertaining. In this way, Karthik showed a promising flair with unique thoughts.  Even as a cameraman, Karthik had creative eye in presenting each frame beautifully. Visuals were glossy, his color schema and DI was effectively used. In contrast, all these cannot come in to save final product when execution misses the mark in crucial times. Anyways, efforts of Karthik in presenting a new concept is highly appreciable. Dialogues were straight, simple and striking. Goutham Nerusu editing was so smooth giving a laminar flow. Sathya Mahaveer composed the songs wonderfully and each of them was beautifully canned. Production values of Suraksh Entertainments of Malkapuram Siva Kumar are so high.

On performance front, this a new cup of tea for Nikhil. He was confined to boy next door kind of roles till date. This Surya character gave him lot of scope to excel in different emotions. For the first time, Nikhil showcased his real artistic skill. Scenes between Nikhil, Madhu Bala or solo episode in graveyard elevated Nikhil to a different level. Heroine Tridha is just moderate. She wasn’t supplementing Nikhil to the expectations. Yet, they looked like a cute pair. Madhu Bala was befitting in mother role. Tanikella Bharani, Sathya managed the fun portion and were able to tickle the fun bone. Mast Ali was over reacting. Praveen comes only in second half. Sayaji Shinde got less screen time. Among the rest, none worth to mention in specific.

Out of the Movie Surya Vs Surya: Concept and Content are two different entities supporting each other. Karthik got an innovative concept on hand. Problem was he missed in ample content to go on debut direction drive. To be much more specific, cameraman within himself dominated the proceedings than a director. First half went placidly entertaining without any hiccups. When the same is anticipated for secondf half, Karthik disappointed with a big lag. Tragically, a poorly etched climax did further more damage.

From Nikhil point of view, he gave a scarless performance. Complication lied with screenplay and direction of Karthik. A little more home work in engaging the viewers with a better second half could have made ‘Surya Vs Surya’ a rare gem of product, which isn’t so now.

Commercially, only metros and A center public can understand this whole theme. For lower order public, it’s a clean bouncer. Let us wait for final commercial judgment.
