Hrithik Roshan, NTR's War 2 directed by Ayan Mukherjee is releasing on 14 Aug 2025 across the world amidst huge expectations. Anticipation is high as the film is the sequel to the hit film War which starred Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff under the direction of Siddharth Anand.
War 2 also happens to be NTR's first straight Bollywood film. The film is a part of YRF spy verse and this is exciting all the fans. The film's OTT rights have been bagged by Amazon Prime Video. Let us findout what impact Hrithik Roshan and NTR created at the box office with War2.
War 2 story revolves around Indian spy and the happening in his personal and professional life and how it impacted the surroundings, the country and the entire world.
Major Kabir (Hrithik Roshan), ex RAW agent takes up freelance assignments and finally he lands up on a dangerous mission for Kali. Why Kabit turned rogue element, what is the mission he takes to for Kali, who is Kali, how it is related to Major Vikram (NTR), Colonel Sunil Luthra (Ashutosh Rana), his daughter Wing Commander Kavya Luthra (Kiara Advani), new RAW chief, Vikrant Kaul (Anil Kapoor) and others form the interesting developments.
Hrithik Roshan once again made his presence felt with his extravagant and intense screen presence. He looked stylish and handsome and proved once again as why he is hailed as the Greek God. He expressed himself with his eyes and emoted according to the situation. He enacted breathtaking action sequences with ease. However his role is mostly similar to the role he did in War and offered nothing new.
Young Tiger NTR made his entry with his straight Bollywood project. He worked hard for his role and put in his blood and sweat with his performance. However, his role didn't offer much to showcase his acting talent. Even his looks didn't inspire much confidence. It turned out to be a disappointment not only to movie lovers but all his fans.
Kiara Advani is okay in her role. She did few action sequences and indulged in glamour treat in a song and that's it. Others like Anil Kapoor, Ashutosh Rana performed according to their roles.
The story of War2 is penned by Ayan Mukherje. He followed the same template of previous YRF spy universe and the story turned out to be no different. Right from the start till the finish, the screenplay and narration assumes a familiar trope. There are no real twists and turns to capture the imagination of movie lovers.
Ayan Mukherje concentrated on elevating the heroism of the two stars and busy doing the tough balancing act. In the midst of all this, the story took a beating. He started the narration with the introduction of Hrithik Roshan and NTR with action sequences and both looked forced just to make the fans happy.
All the scenes looked cut, copy, paste from the previous films and offered nothing new. Except for the song Salaame Anaali, the first half turns out to be pretty average with the viewers hopes shifted to the second half. Couple of action sequences in the second half excites viewers but then the viewers will be disappointed with many insipid moments.
No amount of sincere and dedicated efforts from Hrithik Roshan and NTR could save the film as the writing turned out to be poor and with the passage of time, one gets a feeling that everyone is passing through the motions. Finally when the film reached the climax everyone heaved a sigh of relief.
The songs tuned by Pritam are ok. They are shot in an okayish manner. Except for Salaame Anaali none of the songs excite. His background music starts with a bang but fizzles out with in no time. The cinematography of Jasper is in sync with the story but offered nothing much. Aarif's editing turns out to be a huge disappoint. There are many scenes that dragged the narration and ended up testing the patience of all the people. Production values are good and are in accordance with YRF set standards. Dialogues are ok.
Altogether, War2 turns out to be outdated spy drama. Ayan Mukherjee got the powerful combination of Hrithik Roshan and NTR when YRF roped in both stars. However, he wasted the golden opportunity as he came up with a routine and predictable story bereft of twists and turns.
The characterisations of Hrithik and NTR didn't offer anything new, NTR's turned out to be weaker. Had Ayan Mukherje worked on the story, turned the Screenplay racy with interesting elements, things would have been different. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 rating for War 2.
