Deva Katta's webseries Mayasabha starring Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao Madadi generated immense interest as the teaser and trailer resembled that of the happenings between the politicians Chandra Babu Naidu and YS.Rajasekhara Reddy. The series is streaming on Sony Liv from 7 Aug 2025. Let us see whether the webseries created any political explosions or not.
Mayasabha story revolves around two youngsters from different backdrop and from different communities and how they rise to power in the state of Andhra Pradesh during the 90s. Kakarla Krishnama Naidu (Aadhi Pinisetty), born to a farmer dreams of pursuing PhD and has his own views on current political situation in the state and fights against the oppression of the lowercastes by the uppercastes.
Similarly MS.Rami Reddy (Chaitanya Rao Madadi), who has been pursuing his MBBS fights against his own father for his violent ways and he shows no interest in politics. While he dreams of serving the people as a doctor, his father has political ambitions for him.
Where this leads to and what happens when they come across and what role the then PM Iravadi Basu (Divya Dutta),her son Sandeep Basu (Sakul Sharma), top film star RNR (Sai Kumar), Media Baron Sivaji Rao (Nassar), actress Anu Harika (Tanya Ravichandran), politicians Chevella Bhaskara Rao (Shrikanth Bharath), Vaakada Mahesh (Shatru), Pothineni Ramesh (Ravindra Vijay), MSR's wife Vaishnavi (Bhavana Vazhapandal),KKN's wife Rameswari (Charitra Varma), MSR's father Siva Reddy (Shankar Mahanti)and others played form the rest of the developments.
Aadhi Pinisetty made his presence felt in the role of KKN which resembled Chandra Babu Naidu.. He showed good variations in his body language and mannerisms. His dialogue delivery is good. Chaitanya Rao made a strong impact. His mannerisms resembled that of late YS.Rajasekhara Reddy. He as the doctor, son who fight against his father's violent acts, his reluctant entry into politics, showed in a realistic way. He showed good emotions and expressions with his dialogue delivery.
Sai Kumar looked good in the role RCR that resembled late NTR. He delivered dialogues in a powerful way and showed good mannerisms and body language. Divya Dutta as Iravati Basu, resembling late Indira Gandhi made a strong impact as the power hungry and dictator like politician. Nassar, Srikanth Iyengar, Shatru, Tanya Ravichandran performed well in their roles. Ravindra Vijay and Shankar Mahanti made an impact with their performances in important roles.
Mayasabha story is penned by Deva Katta & Kiran Jay Kumar and it is the realitic take on the political developments before and after emergency, Congress party rule in the state of Andhra Pradesh and centre and the rise of leaders like Chandra Babu Naidu and YS.Rajasekhara Reddy and the entry of film star NTR.
The webseries has 9 episodes and each episode is over 40-50 minutes. The directors decided to narrate each and every minute and important development in the state during those states in a detailed manner and so the first few episodes' narration pace is slow and steady.
However interest levels are intact as and when Aadhi Pinisetty and Chaitanya Rao's roles appear and how they became friends, their priorities before entering politics etc. The naxal moment is highlighted quite well and the violent scenes depicted puts off few viewers. The polical developments are shown realistically but those who are not in touch with them feel the episodes quite dragging and uninteresting.
Most of the episodes are focused on highlighting either YSR or Chandra Babu's roles or else Indira Gandhi or the naxal moments. After sometime, even those interested in politics will find it boring. Only with the entry of Sai Kumar in the role resembling NTR, interest levels increases. But the webseries ends with Chandra Babu enacting a coup with the lead to the second season. One might feel that the narration was dragged and the makers could have done away with one episode turing the screenplay racy. Predictable elements, no real twists and turns puts off the viewers.
Songs of Shakthikanth Karthik are situational. The background score is impactful and elevated the crucial scenes. The cinematography of Suresh Ragutu, Gnanasekhar showed the scenes in a natural and reaslitic manner taking viewers down the memory lane. The editing of Praveen KL is fine but in few episodes, the narration slowed down bringing down the intensity levels. VFX could have been better. Production values are good.
Altogether, Mayasabha turns out to be a predictable political thriller. Deva Katta generated interest with the characters that resembled late NTR, YSR and Chandra Babu Naidu and came up with an intersting story revolving around it. However, the predictable plot, linear screenplay played the spoilsport. To the top it, the director's penchant for the second season, marred the final output. A little finetuning of the script and racy screenplay would have added more punch to the proceedings. Considering all these aspects, Cinejosh goes with a 2.75 rating for Mayasabha.
