Despite adjournment, some business transacted in House

Opposition Members on Monday continued their agitation in the state Assembly for the third straight day, disrupting the proceedings  and demanding withdrawal of the cases against students in all the three regions without any preconditions attached.

Deputy Speaker Nadendla Bhaskar Rao was forced to adjourn the House for 15 minutes as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi Members reached the Speakers' podium and raised slogans in support of cases' withdrawal, which resulted in the 'Question Hour' postponed.

The Members also quoted certain precedents wherein hundreds of criminal cases were withdrawn by the government.

The main Opposition Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu asked for an immediate withdrawal of all cases against separatists and integrationists students, saying that their future is involved. 

Replying to Mr Naidu’s plea, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy assured that every case was under scrutiny and the government would take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time to withdraw the remaining cases.

Meanwhile, Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi demanded that cases booked against 422 Muslim youth in the old city, who were charged with being involved in communal clashes, be withdrawn. He said that there were cases registered against him too.

In the first place, Mr Owaisi appealed to the students not to fall a prey to the vested interests and not to get implicated with any cases.

The Chief Minister stated that the cases related to communal violence would be viewed from different angle and assured to study and examine those cases also and do the needful.

TRS leader K Taraka Rama Rao said that the government was trying to shield the MIM with an intention to sidetrack the actual issue. Mr Owaisi and Mr Rama Rao entered into heated arguments for some minutes before calming down over the issue.

TDP’s Nagam Janardhan Reddy demanded that compensation be paid to the farmers who lost their crops in the recent floods.

Praja Rajyam Party leader Kannababu said that it was the duty of the government to maintain peace and demanded that minimum support price on rice be announced.

Lok Satta Party leader Jayaprakash Narayan asked the government to lift the cases region-wise.
