  In the wake of Intelligence Bureau's (IB) alert on possible terror strike by Lashkar-e-Taiba to mark Independence Day, the State Independence Day,on Saturday stepped up security at all important places in the city.

The police have stepped up security arrangements in different parts of the city ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, a top police official said today.

" Apart from the routine security checks, we have taken additional precautions to thwart possible terror strikes,” the city police commissioner said. 

“As part of security measures, we have deployed sufficient police force in various parts of the city. We have asked the public to be more alert if they come across abandoned items in markets and other public places," according to the police sources said.

The police said security agencies were carrying out special checks in sensitive places. Besides they were in coordination with railway police to undertake continous security checks at railway stations and trains.

Replying to a query on whether Centre has issued any terror alert for the city, the Hyderabad Police Commissioner said, "routine alerts have been issued and as per security has been further beefed up.

He said that the security around the World Badminton Championships venue has been beefed up by deploying special teams with metal detectors and sniffer dogs at various points. Round-the-clock armed escort has been provided to all the players participating in the tournament, he added.
