Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy put the opposition parties on notice on Saturday that the ‘young team’ is battle ready and ready to take to the pitch to decimate any obstacle standing in its way.

A former cricketer, the Chief Minister’s speech at the function at Gandhi Bhavan to herald in Botsa Satyanarayana as the new Pradesh Congress Committee president was full of cricketing phrases.

At 51 years of age, Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy pointed out that along with himself, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha, Botsa Satyanarayana, Nadendla Manohar and Bhatti Vikramarka are all young and raring to have a go at the opposition team.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy, while describing his team as a ‘young’ team who would decimate the opposition, perhaps forgot that the biggest emerging thorn in the state Congress’s sides, YS Jaganmohan Reddy, is not even forty years old yet.

“We are going to devastate the opposition and score at a tremendous pace. The opposition teams will have no option but to remain mute spectators and witness our attack,” the Chief Minister said.

He said that the High Command has specifically opted for a young team in Andhra Pradesh to build the party’s fortunes, even though the team members had never demanded any posts for themselves.

“We were given these responsibilities as we had remained loyal to the party. We will put in our best efforts to do justice to the responsibilities entrusted on us,” Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy said.

“Any loyal and efficient worker’s efforts will be recognised and he or she would be suitably rewarded by the High Command. As long as the cadre is enthusiastic about the party and carries out his responsibilities properly, the Congress will rule,” Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy stated.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the party will not suffer any damage because of any individual. “We have always suffered losses due to our internal differences. We should always be careful to avoid putting our personal agenda before the party,” he said.

Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy also ridiculed the reports which appeared in a section of the media that there were differences between him and the new PCC chief. “There are no differences. He and I had been working together since the past 15 years. “It is all a creation of the media,” he said.

He also said that all the Congress leaders and cadre had one common goal. “Our goal is to further strengthen the Congress party and ensure that India will have a young Prime Minister in Mr Rahul Gandhi in 2014
