The Telugu Desam Party on Friday decided to go full tilt against the ruling Congress by stating that it is ready to break a long standing tradition and fielding its own candidates to contest for the Speaker and his Deputy’s posts in the state Assembly.

After marathon discussions with his senior party leaders, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu told media persons at his residence at Jubilee Hills that his party would field MLA from Done segment of Kurnool district KE Krishna Murthy as the challenger to the Congress candidate Nadendla Manor for the Speaker’s post. The party also named MLA Suddala Devaiah from Karimnagar district to contest for the Deputy Speaker’s post.

This is the second salvo against the Congress in as many days and comes a day after the main opposition party decided to introduce a No Confidence Motion against the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government.

Mr Naidu also clarified that his party has decided to give another notice to government on Saturday over the introduction of No Confidence Motion as the earlier notice has some technical lapses.

The TDP chief pointed out that the Speaker would have to take decision on the No Confidence Motion within ten days as laid down in the rules of the Assembly.

Mr Naidu further appealed to all MLAs to vote in favour of his party’s No Confidence Motion as per their conscience.

The TDP chief also revealed that the Left parties are considering extending their support to his party’s No Confidence Motion and added that the Vote would expose the real strength of the YSR Congress party.

Responding to a question, Mr Naidu said the decision on Telangana should be taken by the Centre. However, it should take a unanimous decision respecting the sentiments of regional people, he said.

He also condemned media for misquoting his statements on Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and advised them to ensure that the reporters be careful what they report.
