Samajwadi Party leader and former actress Jaya Prada on Sunday visited Tirumala to offer prayers to Lord Venkateswara on the occasion of her 49th birthday.

The actress-turned-politician was accompanied by Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh during her visit to the world-famous hill shrine.

Jaya Prada arrived at the temple in the morning hours where she was accorded a traditional welcome by the purohits. She performed special pujas and offered prayers.

After the darshan of Lord Venkateswara, Jaya Prada told media persons that she would work for welfare and prosperity of Telugu people till her last breath.

She also extended her warmest greetings to the Telugu people and farmers on the occasion of Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day celebrations.

Jaya Prada revealed that she had prayed for prosperity of the farmers and for the growth of the state on the agriculture, industrial and financial sectors. She also said that she had prayed for peace and prosperity.

Jaya Prada was born as Lalita Rani on April 3, 1962 in a middle-class family in Rajahmundry. Her father Krishna Rao was a Telugu film financier and her mother Neelavani a housewife. She was made to join dance and music classes at an early age which groomed her for her future acting career.
