Alert Villagers of Somaram in Thorrur mandal, Warangal on Friday caught four members of a gang of ten pseudo-policemen for extorting money.

According to sources, a gang of ten armed men, posing as police personnel, had made their way in the village and were terrorising the villagers.

The gang were armed with a pistol and were threatening the villagers that they would be booked in false cases. According to the villagers, the gang demanded money from them not to book cases.

The villagers were at first taken in by the threats but as some time went by, suspicion dawned on them that there was something fishy about the ‘policemen’s’ behaviour.

Some of the more adventurous villagers questioned the ‘policemen’ and the truth was soon out. Sensing the turn of events, the miscreants tried to run away, but the villagers gave chase and managed to catch four members of the gang, while six managed to get away.

The villagers tied the miscreants to a pole in the centre of the village and soundly thrashed them before handing them over to the real police.

A complaint was also lodged at the police station. The police formed a team to nab the remaining six members of the pseudo-police gang.

All the accused belong to Khammam district.
