As expected the Supreme Court shocked CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSRCP in AP. In the wake of the postponement of AP's civic body polls, the ruling party filed a petition in Supreme Court a few days ago seeking the Supreme Court's verdict to lift State Election Commission's (CEC) orders and to pave the way for the conduct of the polls with immediate effect.

The Apex Court, however, didn't pay heed of the government's appeal and supported CEC's decision to get the polls deferred by six weeks as part of a preventive measure for the spread of Coronavirus.

But then, here is a sigh of relief for YSRCP though. The special bench headed by the Supreme Court chief justice Bobde directed the CEC to lift the election code so as to ensure the government's welfare schemes are implemented.

In the meanwhile, the opposition parties urged the EC to start the electioneering again from the process of nominations which wasn't taken notice by the CEC.
