Swargeeya Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao did not limit himself just to acting. He had precisely taken up various other crafts in filmmaking such as director, producer, writer, editor etc. Following father’s footsteps, NTR’s son Natasimha Balakrishna also tried different genre films in his long film career. But, he ventured into film production only recently with biopic on his dad NTR.

Balakrishna floated NBK Films to produce NTR Biopic as two part series- NTR Kathanayakudu and NTR Mahanayakudu. Unfortunately, the first part Kathanayakudu ended as an epic disaster resulting in huge losses to distributors. There were reports that, Balakrishna as a compensation for Kathanayakudu losses will be offering Mahanayakudu theatrical rights for free. However, the fact is Balakrishna is only paying back 20% of the loss amount to buyers. What’s more he is releasing Mahanayakudu through Suresh Productions Banner.

Trade pundits opine that, Balakrishna failed utterly as a producer. “Rather making NTR biopic as a tribute to his father, Balakrishna looked the film as a profit-making venture. Despite making the film in moderate budget, to cash on NTR’s craze, he sold the theatrical rights at exorbitant prices. Balakrishna’s highest earner Gautamuputra Satakarni collected a full run share of close to 50 Cr. However, Kathanayakudu rights for all the territories were sold for 72 Cr. The film only recovered 20 Cr and buyers incurred 50 Cr loss. Balakrishna will be in safe zone, even if he gives Mahanayakudu rights for free. But, he did not care for wellbeing of his buyers. Though he is one of the super stars of Telugu cinema, Balakrishna failed utterly as a producer,” says a trade analyst.

If Balakrishna will not change his mind on releasing Mahanayakudu through other distributors, he will not get buyers for his next production ventures. Once trust is broken, it is tough to regain!
