The Apex Court gave nod to the BJP's CM candidate to be swearing in as the chief minister of Karnataka at 9 am today. However, Yeddyurappa was given 15 days time to prove his majority on the floor of the house. Alleging it as the death of democracy, the Congress and JD(S) alliance filed a petition to the chief justice of India and the latter right away constituted a three-judge bench.

The three-judge bench refused to stay Yeddyurappa’s swearing-in but also asked him to produce before it the letter he gave to the Governor on May 15. The court said the swearing-in and the government formation would be subject to the final outcome of the case.

However, the Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “It is the biggest license to poaching if Governor gives 15 days to the BJP to prove majority.” In the meanwhile, the JD(S) leader said the BJP was shamelessly offering Rs.100 crores each for the MLAs. He made it clear that JD(S) would not support BJP for any case. BJP needs to get the magic mark of 113 seats but the party falls short of it winning just 104 MLA seats.
