SPB Helped Chess Prodigies!

In the year 1983 an announcement came for National Team Chess Championships in Bombay. Tamil Nadu Chess Association Selected teams and even collected donations to send them to the nationals. 

Manuel Aran, India's first International Master used to be the secretary of Tamil Nadu Chess Association during that time. He decided to send talented young kids who can surprise all  in the nationals.

But he had the problem as already the association collected donations for two teams and for children's team they should search for the sponsors. Popular poet and chess fan Arudha was the best friend of Aran. Arudha used to be the President of Madras District Chess Association. 

Both had discussions about the expenses and went on the hunt. The next day the song penned by Arudra was getting recorded in Vijay Gardens in Madras. Singer Balasubramaniam was singing the song. 

Arudra asked Balu to write a cheque for him. Balasubramaniam did not any questions and gave him a blank cheque. After taking the cheque Arudra told him the purpose of the cheque. The cheque given by Balasubramaniam helped sponsor four talented child prodigies and it included great player Vishwanathan Anand. Aran said more than him SPB played an important role in propelling Vishwanathan Anand as he also handed another cheque during his felicitation ceremony.
