Kala Tapaswi K Viswanadh has been conferred India's highest award in cinema, Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2016. The award was announed by union minister Venkaiah Naidu this evening. 

Born on 19 February, 1930 in a traditional family, K Viswanath started off his professional career as a sound engineer. Thereupon, he worked as an assistant director at then top director Adurthi Subbarao.

K Viswanath made his film debut as a director with ANR's 'Athma Gouravam' which went on super hit. Later, the director helmed a few content based films such as 'Chelleli Kapuram', 'Jeevana Jyothi' etc. 

However, K Viswanath' showed his mark and style with 'Siri Siri Muvva' which was followed by ever remembered classics like Shankarabharanam, Sagara Sangamam, Swathi Muthyam, Swarna Kamalam, Shruthi Layalu, Swayamkrushi, Sirivennela, Aapadbhandhavudu, Shubhasankalpam and many more.

K Viswanadh has made indelible imprint on Telugu cinema through his unique styling of takes which included classical dance forms, music art. With his movies he enriched values of Telugu cinema and made Telugu people proud. He is truly deserved for this honour. Congratulations to K Viswanath garu!
