Baahubali,’ the magnum opus and prestigious Indian film is serving an answer to world cinema on high technical standards and gigantic production values adopted in this part of the world. Thanks to producer Shobu Yarlagadda, Prasad Devineni for believing in Rajamouli’s dream and thus is the quality product raring to enter theaters in next month.

For such voluminous projects, first question comes in our minds is… how much is ‘Baahubali’ actual budget, together for two parts? To all our known knowledge, ‘Baahubali’ was kick started as only one feature film and with a budget sufficient only for single part.

When a story with such long span can’t be narrated in one part, Jakkanna expanded screenplay and made it profitable with two parts. He shot a major chunk of second part during the phase when first part was in production.

Especially, Deve Sena that is Anushka track was almost completed in 2012-13 in extensive Military/Defense locations. Later when the idea of dividing film into two parts is bought to fore, everything went on different lines. Rajamouli though tried to make maximum use of available footage to fit in for both parts, an approximate wastage of 42 Crores was inevitable.

In order not to compromise on quality levels, ARKA Media Works flushed bundles of extra money for second part visual effects and re-shoots. We also heard that, Rajamouli scrapped all the portions shot on Anushka during first part when he could not get Military/Defense permissions for canning continuity shots. Inadvertently, ‘Baahubali’ budgetary estimates went overboard when the product is considered as a matter of National prestige.

To our available (un)official information, budget for ‘Baahubali 1’ and ‘Baahubali 2’ together is rounded at Rs. 248 Crores while the unproductive and scrap is estimated to be Rs.42 Crores making the overall expenditure Rs. 206 Crores on two parts. Let’s analyze the profit-loss equations in coming days.
