Then Heroine Rajasri Must Be Felicitated

She made her debut to Tollywood as a child artist with 'Nagula Chavithi'( 1956). Afterwards, she became popular and earned great reputation in five languages as a top heroine. She acted with three Chief Ministers( NTR, MGR and Karunanidhi). She was also seen as a heroine with Tollywood's then top heroes like Krishna, Sobhan Babu, Krishnam Raju and others. This is all about 'Beauty Queen' of yester years, Rajasri we are talking about.

Rajasri was one among those heroines who ruled Tollywood in 1960s. If heroines like Savithri, Anjali were shot to fame mainly with their performances, Rajasri, Krishna Kumari and Jamuna were treated as glamorous heroines. Rajasri teamed up with hero Kantha Rao for many Janapadha( folklore) movies. The combo was a super hit pair then.  She appeared gorgeous in movies such as 'Thotalo Pilla Kotalo Rani', 'Aggi Pidugu',' Guruvunu Minchina Sishyudu', 'Aggibarata', ' Gopaludu Bhoopaludu', 'Bangaru Thimmaraju' etc. She also did three Hindi movies which were starred by Sashi Kapoor, Kishore Kumar and Dhara Singh. Rajasri was a dream girl for then youth.

As she made a promise to her husband not to do movies after marriage, she was abided by her promise even today. Although she has been getting offers for TV serials, she shows no interest in doing them. Apart from being a glamorous star, Rajasri was a great classical dancer. She gave concerts in many countries. She received 'MGR' award from Tamil Nadu government in 2004. She was also felicitated in '100 Years of Indian Cinema' held recently in Chennai.

Unfortunately, Rajasri was forgotten by Tollywood. This pure Telugu actress, who hailed from Vizag, had got no invitation for '75 Years of Telugu Cinema'. Her interview was published in a leading Telugu daily today. Having read her interview her fans were delighted. She should be felicitated by Tollywood's film fraternity under any circumstances, as this is their responsibility. As Rajasri, herself, said, an artist must be felicitated when he/she is alive, else, giving away awards on his/her name, after his/her death is useless.
