The industrial policy closely resembles the one, which former chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy had called a ''landmark policy which could steer the state into the future.''

The new policy has envisaged supply of power at a price comparable to all other states in the country as the 'cheapest'. The Government also plans to provide power at a subsidy of 75 paise per unit to the industries.

The Government will also relax VAT for industries. For medium and major industries the government plans to give 25 percent relaxation and 50 percent for small and micro industries.

The policy plans to accord mega industry status to those with a capital investment of Rs 250 crore or more and that provide employment to 2000 people.

The policy will also promote SC/ST entrepreneurs with incentives. The cabinet decided to name Kadapa district after Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. It also proposes to celebrate YSR’s birthday on July 8 lavishly across the state.
