KTR proposes Japanese model of waste management for Telangana

Municipal Administration & Urban Development Minister K. Tarakarama Rao said that the effective Municipal Solid Waste management was the need of the hour with the growing urban population in Telangana state to ensure cleaner and healthier cities.

The minister was addressing a 10 member Japanese delegation, comprising of delegates from Clean Authority of Tokyo (CAT 23), JETRO and TAKUMA, which visited the Metro Rail Bhavan.

KTR requested the visiting delegates to study the existing waste management practices in Telangana State and come up with a detailed road map and timelines for adopting the Japanese model of waste management in State. He desired to set up the state of art incineration plant in similar lines of the Tokyo city by December 2019 and assured all possible cooperation to the visiting delegation.

The Japanese delegation, during their three day visit to the state, visited the three waste processing locations at the Transfer station at lower tank bund, 11 MW RDF power plant at Bibinagar and the Hyderabad Integrated Waste Management Facility at Jawaharnagar. The team also visited the TSPCB office and the laboratory to understand the facilities available for testing and appreciated the same.

The Feasibility Study is proposed to be undertaken along with a MoU mutually agreed by the Government of Telangana and CAT/Govt of Japan. The concerned authorities in Telangana have been asked to extend the required support and information to carryout Feasibility Study.

The team also met Chief Advisor to Government Telangana State Pollution Control Board chairman Dr. Rajiv Sharma today and briefed about their purpose of visit the and proceedings during three days.

The delegation also met MA&UD Secretary Navin Mittal today and discussed about the steps to be taken towards setting up of clean authority in Telangana State. 

It was decided that a feasibility study will be undertaken which will cover the details of input and output conditions, investigations on suitable specifications, identification of the equipment suppliers and civil contractors.  It will also include financial analysis, land requirement and water requirement etc. The type of scientific equipment additionally needed by TSPCB for achieving the propose MSW goals will also be part of the feasibility study. 

Mittal assured the Japanese delegation of extending all the required support and information to carry feasibility study.  TSPCB Member Secretary Satyanarayana Reddy, Additional Commissioner GHMC Ravi Kiran and other officials were present in the meeting.
