Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao announced that the Kcr Kits Scheme would be formally launched on June 2, the State’s formation Day.

Addressing the District Collectors’ conference at Pragathi Bhavan on Monday, the Chief Minister explained that the idea behind giving Kcr Kits was to give financial assistance and help poor pregnant women during the pre and post-natal stages. Kcr Kits Scheme is conceived after studying a scheme in vogue in Tamil Nadu by a team of officers. “It is unfortunate that the poor pregnant women often go to their daily wage work even during the advanced stage of their pregnancy. The Scheme will help pregnant woman financially during her days of pregnancy and after the delivery.  Top priority should be given for the implementation of this scheme. It should increase the Institutional deliveries. For registering the names of pregnant women, enlist the services of ANMs and extract work from them. Registration should begin before 12th week of pregnancy. According to a Data, 6.5 lakh deliveries are taking place in the State. Institutional deliveries should increase through the Kcr Kits Scheme,” the Chief Minister said.

“Ensure 100 per cent immunization. Rs 14000 (Rs 12000 plus Rs 2000 worth Kcr Kit) is paid to the beneficiary in phases. If the baby born is a girl an additional Rs 1000 is paid. Arrangements are made for the adequate infrastructure including the required staff for the successful implementation of the Kcr Kits Scheme. There are 350 PHCs, 102 Area Hospitals, 7 Teaching Hospitals, in total 459 Centres in the State.  Facilities in the Labour Rooms at these hospitals have been upgraded,” Kcr said.

Some of the Collectors brought to the notice of the Chief Minister about non-availability of doctors in rural areas especially in the Tribal areas. To this, the Chief Minister asked the Chief Secretary to work out incentives to the doctors who work in the remote areas. Incentives should encourage doctors and other staff to work in the rural areas. The Chief Minister said a multi-pronged strategy should be worked out to ensure doctors and nurses work in the remote regions. He also wanted the officials concerned to explore the possibility of integrating with the private institutions to ensure increase of institutional deliveries. He said Collectors are empowered to appoint doctors and nurses on contract basis where ever and whenever there is a need. He wanted the Collectors to extract work from the ASHA workers to implement Kcr Kit’s programme from registration to post natal care.
