Telangana Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao laid the foundation stone for Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme at Mamidimada in Quila Ghanpur mandal of Wanaparthy district on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, Harish Rao said that under Kalwakurthy LI scheme, a reservoir was being constructed which would irrigate 24,285 acres of land in Adakala and Bhootpur of Mahabubnagar, Tamajipet of Nagar Kurnool and Ghanpur mandal of Wanaparthy district. He said that that the project would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 86 crore. He also claimed that the State Government had spent Rs. 900 crore on Kalwakurthy Project during the last two-and-a-half years. He said that the project would be completed by spending another Rs. 1,000 crore.

The minister accused the Congress party of causing obstructions in the construction of irrigation projects in the State. He alleged that the Congress leaders were indirectly trying to stall the process of development in the State. However, he said that the Congress leaders would never succeed in their plans.

Harish Rao informed that the State Government aims to provide irrigate facility to 1 lakh acres in each Assembly constituency of old Mahabubnagar district. He said all pending irrigation projects of Mahabubnagar would be completed in the next two years.

Harish Rao also inaugurated the Mission Kakatiya works in Qila Ghanpur and also inaugurated a power sub-station in Karne Tanda.
