Hyderabad cannot be developed overnight: KTR

Municipal Administration Minister K. Tarakarama Rao on Monday said that Hyderabad could not be developed as global city overnight and the government needs at least six to seven years to achieve the goal.

The minister gave this reply in reaction to a question raised in the State Legislative Assembly during Question Hour. The issue witnessed heated debate with MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi asking Ktr to furnish all details. Following request by members, Speaker S. Madhusudan Chary allowed a small discussion othe issue.

Earlier, in his reply to a question raised by BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy, the minister claimed that as part of 100 Days Development programme, the GHMC has completed 463 BT road works and 25 works are in progress. Further, 317 desilting works; 50 bus bays; 100 public toilets; 21 graveyards; 13 model markets have been completed. He said that BT roads were delayed due to tender recall whie graveyard works were delayed due to tender process. Similarly, model markets were delayed due to non-availability of clear land and Compound Walls to Open Spaces were delayed due to site dispute, court cases, etc., He said works which were not held up due to court cases/site disputes, etc., would be completed as soon as possible.

The minister also admitted that the development works could not be taken up at brisk pace due to shortage of staff in GHMC. He said that the State Government had spent Rs. 910 crore on construction and repair of city roads. Blaming the previous Congress government for bad condition of roads, he said only Rs. 250 crore were spent on roads from the year 2007 to 2013 while Rs. 490 crore were spent in 2008-09.

Ktr also claimed that the GHMC provided 14.22 lakh dustbins and provided 2,000 Swach autos for lifting garbage. He said Mobile Application, Portal and e-office were introduced and the process of building permission was made available online. He promised that 1,000 public toilets would be constructed soon.

Kishan Reddy alleged that there was no change in city's condition during the last two-and-a-half years although TRS Government promised to develop the city like Istanbul and London.
