Finance Minister Etela Rajendar on Wednesday held a video conference with the district collectors and officials of various departments to review the situation arising after the demonetization move of the Centre.

The minister directed the officials and the district collectors to ensure that enough arrangements are in place to ensure that the common people who are exchanging their currency notes are not put to hardships. He said that there was no scarcity of essentials in the state and warned that those spreading rumours about the shortage of essential commodities will be dealt with strongly. He directed the officials to monitor the situation in rural areas and asked them to take steps to solve issues.

Chief Secretary Dr. Rajiv Sharma asked the officials to ensure that the farmers get the money for their produce sold at agriculture markets on time. He said that the same amount should be deposited in the farmers’ accounts. He also directed the officials to ensure payment of wages on time for the workers of rural employment scheme, MGNREGS. He said that the Centre was monitoring the situation arising out of the demonetization move from time to time.
