Former Union minister and BJP leader Kavuri Sambasiva Rao came down heavily on AICC chief Sonia Gandhi accusing her of dividing Andhra Pradesh for her personal gains.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Rao alleged that Sonia Gandhi wanted to elevate her son Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister and hence divided AP to gain votes in Telangana.

Despite severe opposition from AP Congress leaders to bifurcate AP, Sonia Gandhi did not take our views and went ahead with her plan- which was aimed at elevating Rahul Gandhi for PM post, the BJP leader said. Congress is responsible for all the problems AP is facing now, Mr Rao said

The BJP leader said that the Centre could not grant special status to AP as the terms under the 14th Finance Commission did not permit for this. He accused YSRC chief Jagan Mohan Reddy of politicizing the issue for political mileage.
