The Congress Legislature Party has decided against contesting the ensuing Rajya Sabha elections.

The decision was taken during the Clp meeting held in Assembly premises on Saturday. Speaking to media persons later, Leader of Oppositions K. Jana Reddy (Assembly) and Mohammed Ali Shabbir (Council) said that the Congress party does not have required numbers in Assembly to contest the Rajya Sabha polls. Further, it was not in favour of encouraging defections in other parties to get votes. Therefore, it has decided to stay away from the polls.

Jana Reddy also informed that the Clp has discussed the failure of Congress party to win Palair by-elections. He said corrective steps would be taken to rectify the mistakes and plug loopholes. He said that the party has also discussed the strategy to fight against the "anti-people" policies of the TRS Government.

Shabbir Ali informed that the Congress party would celebrate the Telangana Formation Day on June 2 across the State by hosting national flag at party headquarters and all other offices. He said that the Telangana Congress would send a special message to AICC President Sonia Gandhi for granting statehood for Telangana State.
