Ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti (Trs) won the Palair Assembly seat in the by-elections whose results were declared here on Thursday.

Trs candidate and R&B Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao secured 94,978 votes to defeat his nearest rival Sucharitha Reddy of Congress who got 49,302 votes. CPM candidate P. Sudharshan got 15,544 votes.

Tummala maintained the lead from first round during counting of votes. While the lead was of 5,426 votes in the first round, it increased to 45,676 votes in the 18th and last round of counting. This winning margin is a a record for Palair Assembly constituency. The highest winning margin since 1972 was of about 24,000.

Speaking to media persons after the declaration of the result, Tummala thanked the voters for their overwhelming support and promised to work for their welfare.
