In the by-election held on February 13, about 81.72 percent of 1.88 lakh voters had cast their votes. The by-election was necessitated due to the death of sitting Congress MLA P. Kishta Reddy in August 2015.

Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao has led the Trs campaign in Narayankhed and ensured the continuance of party's winning spree. Meanwhile, IT Minister K. Tarakarama Rao congratulated Harish Rao for his vigorous and intensive campaign which helped Trs to sweep Narayankhed Assembly by-poll on Tuesday. “Trs juggernaut continues to roll unabated. Thumping majority of over 50K in Narayankhed. Congrats to @Trsharish & Medak Trs leadership team,” Tweeted KTR on Tuesday.
