Former chief minister K Rosaiah on Friday appealed to Seemandra and Telangana leaders, employees and students to postpone the statehood agitation temporarily as United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who underwent surgery at New York,   is not available to resolve the issue.

Talking to media persons at Congress Legislature Party Office, Rosaiah said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi has to play active role in resolving the Telangana issue and without her presence the Centre cannot take any decision.

“With Sonia Gandhi not available for at least three weeks, it is very difficult to resolve the Telangana statehood issue for the Centre,” Rosaiah pointed out.

Recalling that even Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi postponed the freedom struggle, he appealed to all leaders, employees and students to temporarily halt the agitation for statehood.

Urging them not to misunderstand his call to defer agitation, he said that it is not possible to take a decision on sensitive Telangana in a day.

He prayed for speedy recovery of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and hoped that she would take active role in politics very   soon.
