A Nampally Criminal Court on Friday remanded film financier Singanamala Ramesh to the custody of the Crime Investigation Department for one week.

Film producer Singanamala Ramesh was remanded to CID custody in connection with a complaint filed by one Ashraf of Shalimar Videos over the video rights of a film Komaram Puli..

Ashraf had filed a complaint that Ramesh had allegedly blackmailed and threatened him when he had the producer to pay the Rs 60 lakhs owed to him. Earlier, Ashraf also lodged complaint with the CID against film producer C Kalyan for cheating and threatening him.

Singanamala Ramesh was trapped and arrested by CID in Chennai was brought to Hyderabad on transit warrant.

The CID officials had informed the VI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate two days ago that they have recovered more than 100 blank cheques and 20 credit and debit cards of various banks from Singanamala Ramesh.

He was produced in court and was sent to judicial remand till July 11.

The CID officials further informed that Ramesh had confessed to threatening film financier Vyjayanthi Reddy, to whom he owed Rs 14.69 crore, with assistance of Bhanu Kiran, prime accused in factionist Maddelacheruvu Suri’s murder. Suri, a politician-turned-gangster from Anantapur district, was gunned down by his close aide Bhanu in Hyderabad on January 3.

The CID sleuths are focusing on Singanamala Ramesh relations with Bhanu Kiran, who was absconding from police after killingMaddelacheruvu Suri.

Besides the call records, the CID sleuths are also checking Ramesh’s e-mail to see if he and Bhanu exchanged mails.

During his interrogation, Ramesh told the officials that he went underground fearing arrest in connection with several cheque bounce cases.
