Days after a storm had been raised over comments made by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in New Delhi, with which he lashed out at Kadapa leader Ys Jaganmohan Reddy, 20-point Economic Programme Chairman N Tulasi on Friday tried to soothe frayed tempers by saying that the opposition (Mr Jaganmohan Reddy’s camp) ‘misunderstood’ the statements.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat, Mr Tulasi Reddy said that what the Chief Minister commented in New Delhi was being misinterpreted here by the opposition party leaders.

He said that the opposition started mud-slinging in the backdrop of Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy's comments in New Delhi even while the Chief Minister only said that it was unethical now to make caustic remarks against the Congress leadership after having derived benefit and reaping the harvest to the brim on the party symbol and popularity for decades.

Mr Tulasi Reddy also pointed out that the Chief Minister did not hesitate to mention how close he was with former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. He also quoted Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy as saying that at YSR’s behest, he had to work overtime within a very short time to find solution for 'saving' Mr Jaganmohan Reddy.

Mr Tulasi Reddy further quoted the Chief Minister saying that, ‘YSR did not even think of the 'plan of action' that he (Mr Kiran Kumar Reddy) would take in so short a time for the 'purpose' (of saving Mr Jaganmohan Reddy),.

The 20-point Economic Programme chairman additionally said that the Chief Minister made the statement only to reveal his proximity with Dr YSR.

He regretted that the comments were ‘misinterpreted by the Opposition and media.
