EC slaps show-cause notice to Chandrababu

EC issued show cause notice to CBN. AP Chief Election Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena has taken a stern stance against Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, expressing his disappointment with the senior leader's behavior. Meena questioned Chandrababu's understanding of the rules, reminding him of his status as a senior leader. Notices have been issued to Chandrababu in response to his comments, and it has been indicated that further action will be taken if he fails to respond to these notices. This development has caused a stir within the TDP.

The issue arose from Chandrababu's recent campaign meetings in Emmiganoor, Markapuram, and Bapatlala, where he reportedly made derogatory remarks about Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy, accusing him of murder. These comments were deemed to violate the Election Code, prompting senior leaders of the YSR Congress Party to lodge a complaint against Chandrababu.

Following an examination of the complaint, Mukesh Kumar Meena issued a notice to Chandrababu, demanding an explanation within 48 hours. The situation has raised questions about the appropriateness of discussing sensitive topics like murders and violent politics during election campaigns, especially considering the Election Commission's past directives on similar matters.

Election observers and officials emphasize the need for restraint and responsible communication during campaigns, urging leaders to avoid making inflammatory statements. It remains to be seen how Chandrababu will respond to these developments.
