Bharata Ratna to P. V. Narasimha Rao. On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic announcement, declaring that the country's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, would be posthumously conferred upon former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao. In a statement shared on X, PM Modi expressed his delight, saying, "Delighted to share that our former Prime Minister, Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao Garu, will be honored with the Bharat Ratna."

PM Modi took to X again to heap praises upon the late P. V. Narasimha Rao, expressing immense joy over the Government of India's decision to bestow the Bharat Ratna upon Dr. MS Swaminathan as well. He highlighted Dr. Swaminathan's monumental contributions to agriculture and farmers' welfare, underscoring his pivotal role in India's journey toward agricultural self-reliance and modernization.

PM Modi also acknowledged Dr. Swaminathan's invaluable work as an innovator and mentor, fostering a culture of learning and research among students. Dr. Swaminathan's visionary leadership, PM Modi emphasized, has not only transformed Indian agriculture but also safeguarded the nation's food security and prosperity. PM Modi fondly recalled his close association with Dr. Swaminathan, cherishing his insights and inputs.

P. V. Narasimha Rao, hailed as an Indian lawyer, statesman, and politician, served as the 9th Prime Minister of India from 1991 to 1996. Renowned for introducing liberal reforms to India's economy, his ascent to the prime ministership held immense political significance as the second holder of the office from a non-Hindi-speaking region (Telugu) and the first from South India (United Andhra Pradesh).
