In one more unfortunate incident of trail derailment, at least 63 people were declared killed and more than 100 injured as Indore-patna Express went off the track near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh today early morning at 3 AM near Pukhrayan, about 100 km from Kanpur.

In the 14 coach train, majority of casualties are reported to be from only two bogies. Accident took place at early hours when all the passengers are in deep sleep. Police officers and local people rushed to the accident spot. Heavy machinery including gas cutters are being used to rescue trapped passengers.

‘Doctors and senior railway officials have reached the location. Exact reason behind this accident is yet to be known,’ Northern Central Railways officials informed the media. Stranded passengers are shifted to a nearby station from where a special train is likely to be arranged.

PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Rajnath Singh expressed the support for bereaved families. National Disaster Response Force teams are also roped into the location. Meanwhile, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu announced compensation for the victims and ordered for an inquiry.
