Films revolving around historical concepts forever lie dangerously on small edge. For such scripts, production costs and engaging prestigious artists make producers pockets to go hollow. Later, the real directors’ tasks begin because they need to present every fact related to those historical personalities as it was. Any small deviation from original characterization of central personality leads to dangerous controversies surround the project.

Looks like film maker Gunasekhar is living precariously with ‘Rudhramadevi’ hanging on indefinite release date. Guna being both director and producer of this historical drama, a recent controversy on revised Intermediate Second Year History Text Book in Telangana State explaining the reasons behind ‘Rudhramadevi’ death might create new problems for his film too.

According to a lesson in History text book, Chandupatla inscription says that Kakatiya queen Rudhramadevi died in Tripuranthakam, Nellore district. The lesson describes, Rudhramadevi was killed in a war with Kayastha King Ambadeva on November 27, 1289. This is disputed by historians because Chandupatla inscription does not confirm the location and date of Rudhramadevi Death. There was also no mention about cause of death. Moreover, Tripuranthakam is not in Nellore district but in Prakasam district now and earlier was in Kurnool district.

History is changing its face year after year with political and cultural influences. Now, cinema has become a powerful medium. So, whatever Gunasekhar says through the film gains more importance and gets a strong register in our minds. Apparently, Gunasekhar must not get into any controversy regarding the death of ‘Rudhramadevi.’ On other hand, he cannot end the film without giving a pertinent closure. She is for sure the pride of Telugu people but there are also different arguments. Historians are eagerly waiting to know, how good ‘Rudhramadevi’ film escapes this climax controversy.
