Four Indians named Gopi Krishna Tiruveedula, his colleague Balram from Hyderabad and Lakshmikanth, Vijay Kumar from Karnataka are kidnapped by dreaded Islamic State (IS) from Sirte, a city in Libya. According to reports, Gopikrishna and Balram are still held hostage in IS custody while Lakshmikanth, Vijay Kumar are released. All of them are employed in University of Sirte.

‘I am happy we have been able to secure the release of Lakshmikant and Vijay Kumar. Trying for other two,’ Sushma Swaraj our External Affairs Minister informed. Sirte is the hometown of Late Muammar Gaddafi. Importance of this incident is its happening time exactly coinciding with IS document released by US media group threatening an armageddon war on India calling on Jehadi groups from Pakistan and Afghanistan to join them.

Security of Indian Nationals living abroad is seriously and sincerely questioned by families in India after this incident. Reports say, Sirte University is closed from last four to five months ever since IS men ran over the campus in February. Government of India is making all the efforts to save all the Indians living in Libya and nearly 2000 more are still to flew back India.
